(MENAFN) Venezuela has cautioned that airlines which paused their operations to the country following a US advisory about elevated risks will face the cancellation of their authorization to operate there if they do not resume services.

The Venezuelan Transport Ministry announced on Tuesday that a 48-hour window granted to international carriers that suspended flights will conclude at 12 noon local time (1600GMT) on Wednesday, according to a Spanish news agency.

Officials said the deadline was communicated during a meeting on Monday with airline representatives. Companies failing to restart flights within the specified timeframe will have their permits to operate in Venezuela withdrawn.

“The Venezuelan state has taken a stand with the airlines and will take the corresponding actions. They have less than 24 hours left,” a ministry source told the news agency.

Last Friday, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a notice urging caution for flights to Venezuela “due to the deteriorating security situation and increased military activity” within the country.

In response to the advisory, several international airlines—including TAP, LATAM, Avianca, Iberia, Gol, and Caribbean Airlines—reportedly suspended their flights to Venezuela indefinitely.

Relations between the US and Venezuela have grown increasingly tense since US President Donald Trump, in August, ordered a military deployment in the Caribbean, citing the goal of targeting drug cartels and halting trafficking routes allegedly associated with Maduro.
