Trump Talks Again About "Making a Fortune"
[XinhuaNet Micro-Report] U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 26th that the U.S. military’s operations in Venezuela brought enormous economic benefits and were likely to be 5 times the cost of launching the military action. Earlier, Trump had more than once “calculated the economic account” for the military action that invaded Venezuela.
Speaking in a Fox News Channel interview on the 26th local time, Trump said, “In the first week, we got 100 million barrels of oil from (U.S. military action). Our earnings are more than the cost of the entire operation. In fact, we’re likely to make 4 to 5 times the cost of the attack.”
“The United States takes away hundreds of millions of barrels of oil from Venezuela,” Trump said.
Also, according to a report by U.S. News and Business Channel on the 25th of this month, U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum visited Venezuela earlier in March together with several senior executives from oil and mining companies. On the 25th, while attending the international energy industry high-end conference “Cambridge Energy Week” in Houston, Texas, Burgum claimed that the United States had recently brought back $100 million worth of gold from Venezuela, and that U.S. refineries would use the gold for commercial and consumer purposes.
On January 3, the U.S. military launched a military operation against Venezuela, forcibly took control of Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife, and brought them to the United States. Trump subsequently said that the United States would “manage” Venezuela until a “safe” transition. The international community has widely condemned the United States for seriously violating Venezuela’s sovereignty and threatening peace and stability in the Latin American region. (Bao Xuelin)
