I've been looking for a reliable SMS receiving platform lately because I often need temporary numbers to register for overseas websites or test interfaces. Buying new SIM cards is too much trouble. I've encountered many pitfalls before—some platforms can't receive messages, others have outrageous delays. After some trial and error, I’ve found a few decent ones to share.

Basically, SMS receiving platforms provide virtual numbers to receive verification codes. After registering, you select a country code, bind it to the website you want to verify, and the verification code appears directly in the backend, protecting privacy and making testing easier. They charge per use or offer monthly plans, depending on your needs.

A few I’ve personally tested and found quite stable are: SMS-Activate and 5SIM, which offer the best overall experience. Verification codes usually arrive within 10 seconds, they cover many countries, and their APIs are clear; Super Cloud SMS, which has especially fast domestic number segments, and US numbers are also good, though sometimes they get congested during peak times; Bird SMS is very stable for domestic app testing, receiving messages in 5-15 seconds, and offers good value.

When using these SMS platforms, be aware that some numbers are shared, which can lead to risk of being flagged or blocked. It’s recommended to have multiple backup numbers for emergencies. Also, don’t rely on them for long-term use—privacy and security are not guaranteed. Additionally, always check the platform’s reputation before choosing—don’t just go for the cheapest option. Sometimes obscure platforms or numbers from less common countries can have delays.

My advice is, if you’re just testing interfaces, any platform supporting API is enough. But if you need stable registration on a specific overseas site, it’s best to top up multiple numbers and switch immediately if one becomes invalid. Many platforms support one-click number switching, which is really handy. Overall, choosing the right SMS receiving platform can save you a lot of trouble—just be patient and try several to find the one that suits you best.
