China Mobile elected as the first council member of the World Data Organization

According to People’s Post and Telecommunications News, recently, the World Data Organization (World Data Organization, WDO) completed its formation in Beijing and officially began operations. As the unit responsible for preparation, China Mobile participated throughout the relevant preparatory work, providing important support for the organization’s establishment, and was elected as an inaugural directorate member.

The World Data Organization is a professional, non-governmental, non-profit international group formed voluntarily by relevant organizations and individuals in the global data sector. It aims to “bridge the data divide, unlock the value of data, and foster the digital economy,” promoting the exchange and utilization of data on the premise of compliance, security, and trust. It serves the development of the global digital economy. The World Data Organization is the world’s first professional international organization dedicated to promoting data development and governance practices, headquartered in Beijing. It has already gathered more than 200 members and covers more than 40 countries worldwide.

China Mobile actively responds to and supports the formation of the World Data Organization, providing in-depth support for key work before and after the organization’s establishment, as well as for the convening of the World Data Organization’s founding conference. As a leading mobile communications operator with global scale, China Mobile is willing to rely on the World Data Organization platform to work hand in hand with member organizations, fully leveraging its advantages in communications, computing power, and intelligent services, and continuously deepening international exchange and cooperation in the data field.

Currently, China Mobile is actively playing an industrial leading role, continuously strengthening data infrastructure. Its self-developed data networking, has been included in the “National Data Infrastructure Construction Guidelines”; it plans to build a trusted data space to provide a secure, efficient unified data-utilization environment for data interoperability across entities and across regions, supporting agile applications and rapid use of data across the entire network; at the same time, it focuses on providing high-quality data corpora to support the development of artificial intelligence large models.

To better integrate with and serve the overall national development agenda, China Mobile will closely follow the purpose of the World Data Organization, practice the shared approach of consultation, co-building, and sharing, and leverage its internationalization and talent advantages. Together with various member organizations, it will contribute Chinese wisdom and solutions, deepen international cooperation in the data field, and work to help improve global data governance and create a better digital future.
