The opening of Semana Santa in Málaga.

On Jueves Santo, the Spanish Legion lands at the port, marches through the city, and honours Cristo de la Buena Muerte. It is an old tradition and a special priviledge to carry Christ. One of my lil cousins in amongst these.
They sign: The Bridegroom of Death
Tourists and locals know this song by hard, it gives me goose bumps every year.
---
No one in the regiment knew
who that legionnaire was
so audacious and reckless
who enlisted in the legion.
No one knew his story,
but the legion assumed
that a great pain bit him
like a wolf in his heart.
But if anyone asked who he was,
with pain and rudeness he would answer:
"I am a man whom fate
wounded with a beast's claw;
I am a bridegroom of death
who is going to unite in a strong bond
with such a loyal companion."
When the fire was roughest
and the fight fiercest,
defending his flag
the legionnaire advanced.
And without fearing death,
with an inflamed pace,
to the rhythm of the hammer
the legionnaire fell.
And as he watered the burning earth with his blood,
the legionnaire murmured with a grieving voice:
"I am a man whom fate wounded
with a beast's claw; I am a bridegroom of death
who is going to unite in a strong bond
with such a loyal companion."
When they finally picked him up,
upon his chest
they found a letter
and a portrait of a divine woman.
And that letter said:
"...if one day God calls you,
claim a place for me
for I want to go to your side."
And in the last kiss she sent him,
she consecrated her final farewell.

In memory of all fallen soldiers.
