Something interesting is happening at the top of global wealth. I just analyzed data from the beginning of the year, and I have to admit, technologists have completely dominated the ranking of the richest people in the world in 2026.
Elon Musk sits at the top with a net worth of about $726 billion. This is a historic level never before reached. His wealth is growing thanks to SpaceX, Starlink, and of course Tesla, plus all the buzz around artificial intelligence. Truly, this is unprecedented.
In second place is Larry Page from Google, with around $270 billion. Jeff Bezos is right behind him with $255 billion. Then there’s a whole group of tech giants — Sergey Brin, Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg. All of them have amassed huge fortunes by holding shares in companies that exploded in value.
What strikes me most? Almost all of the top 10 richest people in the world are primarily founders or early players in the tech industry. These are no longer inheritance billionaires or magnates from industries of decades past. These are people who built things from scratch.
What drives this boom? Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, semiconductors, the space industry. American tech companies simply dominate, and their values are increasing incredibly fast. People who held shares for years are now seeing their companies’ valuations skyrocket.
I always find it fascinating how quickly the landscape of global wealth changes. Just a few years ago, the list looked completely different. Now, tech has dominated everything from top to bottom.
