Trump Unveils a Record Defense Budget of $1.5 Trillion, the Biggest in U.S. Modern History
ME News message. On April 3 (UTC+8), U.S. President Trump released an outline of the FY 2027 budget proposal on Friday, planning to request $1.5 trillion in defense spending—an amount that ranks among the highest in modern history. This preliminary proposal did not disclose many key details, including the overall spending scale and long-term fiscal revenue projections. Under this military budget proposal, the next fiscal year will allocate $1.1 trillion to the U.S. Department of Defense, along with an additional $350 billion for critical munitions procurement, expansion of the defense industrial base, and other related matters. As early as this January—before the U.S. launched a large-scale strike against Iran—Trump had already pledged to submit a $1.5 trillion defense budget request. This budget also provides funding support for part of new government initiatives, including $30 million to support the newly established National Fraud Investigation Bureau led by Vice President JD Vance, and the allocation of $10 billion in mandatory funding to establish a Presidential Capital Management Program within the National Park Service, for construction and beautification projects in Washington, D.C.
