The “drug lord” Park Wang-rye (47) who had previously conducted large-scale distribution of drugs from the Philippines into South Korea was transferred to South Korea’s prosecutors on April 3. Park Wang-rye is accused of smuggling and selling drugs in South Korea between November 2019 and July 2024. He received drug transaction funds through bank transfers or Bitcoin electronic wallets. The illegal proceeds of about 6.8 billion won (approximately $45.09 million) have been identified, and the total criminal scale reaches 13.1 billion won (approximately $86.86 million). South Korea’s Joint Investigation Department for Drug-Related Crimes will focus on tracing his hidden funds and will conduct an in-depth analysis of the Bitcoin transaction records related to the alleged crimes.
