Man, I went through a rough situation the other day and decided to do some research about fines for running a red light. I found out that it's a very serious infraction, no joking around. The fine costs R$ 293.47 and also adds 7 points to your CNH, which is pretty heavy on the wallet and your driving record.
What caught my attention the most is that the red light violation is caught by these cameras called 'pardais'. There's a slight delay between the light turning yellow and red, but that's no excuse — the system records everything. I saw people thinking they can run through in the middle, but these modern devices catch even those trying to push their luck.
The good thing is that if you check the system at the DMV quickly and pay in advance, you can get some discounts. But even so, running a red light fine is expensive. I have friends who accumulated points and almost lost their CNH. The rule is clear: mandatory stop at the red light, with very rare exceptions like emergency vehicles or turning right where there's signage. Other than that, just follow the traffic normally and don’t take risks. Have you ever received a fine like this or know someone who has?
