Prepaid SIM cards can be really confusing to choose from, right? Recently, I’ve tried various options, from those available at convenience stores to online orders, and the quality varies widely.

HIS Mobile’s prepaid SIM is honestly quite excellent. Unlimited data for 30 days at around 3,500 yen is more than enough for everyday use. However, the only downside is that it’s not sold at convenience stores, and you have to order online. Nippon SIM for Japan is similarly convenient, and since you can find it at electronics retail stores, it’s a good option if you need something quickly.

If you want to buy at a convenience store right now, the IIJmio JAPAN TRAVEL SIM is a good choice. It’s available at Lawson and 7-Eleven, and if you go with the eSIM version, you can start using it in 5 minutes. However, the price tends to be higher. For speed-focused users, Parrot Beak’s JAPAN PREPAID SIM is really stable. Since it uses SoftBank’s network, it remains reliable even during peak times.

Honestly, it depends on your budget and usage. If you prioritize cost, there are options with 10GB for just over 2,000 yen. For heavy daily use, unlimited plans like HIS Mobile’s are available. Also, check whether you just need to insert the SIM card or if any setup is required. Decide whether you prefer the convenience of buying at a convenience store or the cost savings of ordering online. The best choice depends on how you plan to use it.
