Hey, I just checked the 2026 calendar and there’s quite a bit to plan for. If you want to arrange some long weekends, you need to know the difference between a holiday and a non-working day because it changes everything when it comes to pay.
National holidays are mandatory, so if you work on that day, you get double pay. Non-working days are different; the employer decides whether you have to go in, and if you do, you get paid normally. The difference is pretty important, honestly.
Regarding Argentine holidays in May, there are two key dates: May 1st for Labor Day and May 25th for the May Revolution. Then there are those that are moved to create longer weekends, like the Güemes holiday in June that’s moved to Monday, or San Martín in August.
The cool thing is that the government intentionally added three non-working days to encourage travel: March 23, July 10, and December 7. Of course, the fixed holidays stay the same no matter what, no matter when they fall. The moved holidays haven’t been clearly defined yet for this year.
If you’re thinking about taking a week off, make sure you know which days are holidays and which aren’t, because working on one versus the other makes a difference. Do you already have your vacation dates in mind?
