A world without the United States is gradually becoming a reality
On January 7, U.S. President Trump instructed the U.S. government to withdraw from 66 international organizations and treaties, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). This move clearly demonstrates the stance of the United States departing from an international cooperation framework grounded in multilateralism.
The Trump administration had just previously disregarded international law and carried out military action against a South American country, Venezuela, to ensure oil supplies; the policy direction is evidently shifting toward building an order through “strength.”
On January 7, Trump signed a memorandum directing all government departments to initiate the process for withdrawing from 31 UN agencies and related treaties, as well as 35 other international organizations.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun and the Financial Times merged in November 2015 to become part of the same media group. Formed by two newspapers in Japan and the UK, which were both founded in the 19th century, the alliance is advancing broad-ranging cooperation, including joint special features, under the banner of “high-quality, the strongest economic journalism.” This time, as part of that effort, there is an exchange of articles between the Chinese websites of the two newspapers.
