Corning Inc. and Meta Platforms have announced a $6 billion partnership to expand Corning’s optical cable manufacturing facility in the Hickory area, North Carolina. This expansion will create approximately 1,000 new jobs and secure Corning as the primary supplier of fiber optic cables for Meta’s AI data centers for the next five years, making the Hickory facility the largest optical cable plant globally. The initiative underscores North Carolina’s growing role as a hub for fiber optics and data center infrastructure, crucial for powering artificial intelligence.
