Got frustrated with your calls showing as private? Yeah, that's annoying. Here's the thing - it usually happens because of a setting you didn't even know existed, or sometimes your carrier just decides to hide your number for some reason.
On Android, the fix is usually buried in your phone settings. Head to your Phone app, tap the menu, go to Settings or Call Settings, then look for Calling accounts or Supplementary services. From there, find Caller ID and switch it to Show number or Network default. Different brands like Samsung, Google, or Realme hide this in slightly different spots, but it's always somewhere in that general area. If nothing changes after that, try clearing your Phone app's storage and cache, then restart. Sometimes your phone just needs to reconnect to the network properly.
On iPhone, it's actually simpler now. Go to Settings, tap Apps, find Phone, then toggle on Show My Caller ID. If you've got multiple lines like an eSIM and physical SIM, you need to do this for each one separately.
Here's the thing though - sometimes your phone settings look fine but calls still show as private. That usually means your carrier is controlling it from their end. You can try dialing *31# to force your number to show on all calls, or #31# to check your caller ID status. If that doesn't work, do a network reset. On Android, go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset mobile network settings. On iPhone, it's Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset Network Settings.
One more thing - if you're using privacy apps like Truecaller or Hiya, they might be blocking your caller ID if they have deep system access. Also, really old SIM cards sometimes struggle with newer networks, so if nothing else works, try getting a new SIM or switching to eSIM.
Basically, if you want to remove your number from showing as private, start with the phone settings, then try the carrier codes, then do a network reset. Most of the time that sorts it out.
