Watch out for blockades in Mexico City today, they’re everywhere. It’s payday Friday and there are also a bunch of scheduled protests, so if you need to get around the city, better check the routes carefully. Several streets have been closed since early, and the traffic is terrible.
According to the SSC, there are protests today at various locations. The Hasta Encontrarles collective is meeting in Chabacano at 7:30, then the SNTE protesters are blocking Viaducto at 8, and there are more at Teléfonos de México and other areas. The Vanguardia Monterrubio group is also gathering at the Preventive Detention Center, and the Indigenous Peoples Union will meet at the Federal Court at 11.
If you’re in Tlalpan, students from Prepa 5 will march along Calzada del Hueso at noon. After that, there’s another protest on Río Churubusco at 1 p.m. And all day long, people from the Sexual Diversity Executive Secretariat are also at Glorieta de los Insurgentes.
Basically, if you have to go out today in Mexico City live, it’s better to give notice ahead of time. Avoid areas like Cuauhtémoc, Iztacalco, and Iztapalapa if you can. These blockades in Mexico City are no joke when it’s payday Friday. What do you usually do in these cases—stay home or risk the traffic?
