Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary: Will prevent incidents like the forcible entry into the embassy from happening again
Xinhua News Agency, Tokyo, March 25 (Reporter Li Ziyue, Chen Zean) In response to the incident on the 24th involving a forcible intrusion into the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said at a press conference on the 25th that Japan would, in accordance with relevant international law and domestic law, work with the relevant authorities to handle the matter appropriately and prevent such incidents from happening again.
Kihara said that it was deeply regrettable that personnel of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, who should have complied with the law, were arrested on suspicion of illegally entering a building. He said that measures have already been taken, including increasing patrol and security forces around the embassy, and that based on ascertaining the relevant circumstances, work to address the issue would be advanced.
According to information from the Chinese Embassy in Japan, on the morning of the 24th, an unlawful individual who claimed to be “a member of the Japan Self-Defense Forces” scaled the wall and forcibly broke into the Chinese embassy in Japan, threatening to kill Chinese diplomatic personnel. The Chinese Embassy in Japan lodged a solemn démarche and said it strongly protests, demanding that the Japanese side provide a responsible explanation. Starting from the evening of the 24th, the Japanese police have gradually disclosed more details of the case; the person who forcibly broke in was affiliated with Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force.
