I remember when Pumas signed Juninho Vieira a few months ago. Honestly, he wasn't a name that sounded familiar around here, but after learning about his career, you understand why they were looking for him. The guy came from winning the Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirão with Flamengo, nothing extraordinary.
The interesting part is that Juninho Vieira didn't come out of nowhere. He played in Portugal, then in Azerbaijan with Qarabag, where he exploded with 41 goals in 81 matches, and that caught Flamengo's attention to bring him back to Brazil. He was part of that squad that won everything but couldn't beat PSG in the Intercontinental.
In numbers, Juninho scored 4 goals in 32 matches with Flamengo. He wasn't the top scorer, but his trophy case is respectable. Two Azerbaijani leagues, one cup, Brasileirão, Libertadores, Brazil Super Cup, Carioca Championship. Quite a lot for a forward aiming to establish himself in Liga MX.
Pumas made a strong move with this signing. After failing to qualify for the playoffs, they needed attacking options, and Juninho Vieira was a different choice from what you usually see in the Mexican market. We'll see how he adapts to the football here.
