Can Chu-Hi rankings have become really diverse lately, but there are so many options that I honestly get confused about which one to choose. Lemon, grapefruit, tea, strong types, not just flavors but also low-calorie and high-alcohol options—there are just too many choices.



Recently, I’ve tried a lot of them, and I realized that the ones ranking high in the Chu-Hi list really do have good reasons. For example, Slat Chardonnay Sour has only 3% alcohol but isn’t overly sweet, and the bits of fruit pulp inside make the texture interesting. It’s only 70 calories, so I don’t feel guilty drinking it.

The Lemon Hall’s Umashio Lemon is also fantastic. It has a rich flavor, but thanks to the salt, it’s not too sweet, so you can drink it every day without getting tired of it. It’s 7% alcohol, but surprisingly easy to drink.

I also tried some strong types, and -196°C Strong Zero Frozen Mandarin has a good balance—despite the alcohol presence, you can drink it on its own comfortably. It’s at a level I’d recommend even for people trying 9% alcohol for the first time.

Personally, I think if you’re drinking every day, low-alcohol types are the way to go, and for occasional treats, richer flavors are better. Sutto Shibori 100% fruit juice is natural without sweeteners, but it’s too rich to drink every night. Honshibori Lemon has a strong tartness, so pairing it with fried or greasy foods is the way to go.

Looking at the Chu-Hi rankings, you can really see how big companies are putting effort into their products. Horoyoi series is great for beginners, and Kirin’s Hyoketsu can be enjoyed like wine. By choosing based on your preferences and the occasion, I think you’ll find the perfect one among the Chu-Hi rankings.
