Recently, I tried out several prepaid SIM cards and realized something: honestly, choosing the right one can be quite confusing. Especially for people looking for prepaid SIMs with phone numbers.
IIJmio, which you can buy at convenience stores, is very easy to get, and being able to pick it up immediately at Lawson or MiniStop is definitely convenient. However, the cost is a bit higher. On the other hand, HIS Mobile offers unlimited data for 30 days at an incredibly low price of just over 3,500 yen, but since it’s only available through online orders, it’s not suitable for urgent needs. Nippon SIM offers large data capacity at a reasonable price and is easy to find because it’s also sold at electronics retail stores.
In terms of network speed, JAPAN PREPAID SIM with SoftBank’s direct line is stable regardless of the time of day. Even during peak daytime hours, videos play smoothly. Conversely, cheaper options tend to have fluctuating speeds depending on the time.
Ultimately, I think it’s best to use a different SIM depending on your needs: prepaid SIMs from convenience stores for urgent situations, HIS Mobile for affordability, and Nippon SIM for a good balance. If a phone number is essential, options are limited, but I really feel that the variety of ways to choose a prepaid SIM has become much more diverse.
