Choosing a powder foundation can be quite a dilemma. You want one that doesn’t look powdery, lasts long without breaking down, and covers pores effectively... You want all of that. You can choose from famous brands like Chifure, CEZANNE, Elegance, Dior, but with so many options, it’s overwhelming.
Recently, I tested and compared the top 62 best-selling powder foundations. I carefully examined whether they looked powdery, stayed put for 8 hours, and effectively covered pores and blemishes. As a result, I identified truly usable “recommendations,” and I’ll introduce them in ranking order.
1st place is Kose’s Synchro Fit Pact EX. Score 4.47. Its strength is preventing dryness or stickiness even after 8 hours of morning makeup. It’s free of powdery texture, with a moist feel that results in a porcelain-like skin finish. Pore coverage decreased by 64%, but blemish coverage was only about 29%, so those concerned about uneven skin tone might need to use a primer.
2nd place is Shiseido’s Taint Powder Eclat. Score 4.42. Its smooth texture makes it less likely to feel powdery. Ideal for dry skin. It resists breaking down even after 8 hours, but pore coverage is only 39%, and blemish coverage about 33%, so it might not satisfy those seeking high coverage.
3rd place is Make Up For Ever’s HD Skin Matte Velvet Compact. Score 4.4. Excellent at controlling T-zone shine, recommended for oily skin. The particles are fine, with no powdery look, and it covers pores by 63% and blemishes by 44%. Suitable for those aiming for a porcelain skin look.
4th place is Etvos’s Matte Smooth Mineral Foundation. Score 4.39. A loose type that feels as light as face powder. Perfect for natural makeup lovers. It’s light coverage, with 50% pore coverage and 22% blemish coverage, ideal for those who prefer a thin finish.
5th place is Kose’s FASIO ヒトヌリカバー 耐久ファンデーション. Score 4.39. It blends well with skin without a powdery look. It’s also beneficial that the T-zone doesn’t get greasy easily. Priced at 1540 yen, it’s attractive. Pore and blemish coverage are modest, but perfect for those wanting a non-powdery finish.
6th place is Kao’s SOFINA Primavista Double Effect Powder. Score 4.38. Suitable for combination skin, controlling dryness and oiliness. The particles are fine, and it doesn’t look heavy even when layered. Covers pores by 52% and blemishes by 31%. The puff with both fuzzy and sponge surfaces is convenient.
7th place is Guerlain’s Parure Gold Skin Control Compact. Score 4.37. Its strength is maintaining a flawless finish for a long time. It resists dryness even on dry skin. Pore coverage is 45%, blemish coverage 38%. It has a noticeable scent, so those sensitive to smell should be cautious.
8th place is Albion’s Primp Powder Rest. Score 4.36. Its fine, moist powder texture minimizes dryness and powdery appearance. Suitable for combination skin and resistant to breakdown. Pore coverage is 31%, blemish coverage 28%. Because it’s light, it may not be suitable for those concerned about skin imperfections.
9th place is Chifure’s UV パウダーファンデーション. Score 4.36. Its low price of 715 yen is attractive. It’s light, non-powdery, and doesn’t break down even after 8 hours. Ideal for those prioritizing a natural look. Pore coverage is 46%, blemish coverage 22%, so it might not be enough for those seeking high coverage.
10th place is Shiseido’s d Program Medicinal Skincare Foundation (Powder). Score 4.35. Designed for sensitive skin with low irritation. It’s non-powdery and has a moist feel. Pore coverage is 49%, blemish coverage 29%. It tends to dry out easily, so those with dry skin should avoid it.
When choosing a powder foundation, it’s important to clarify your skin type and desired finish. If you prioritize long-lasting wear, consider the 1st place. For a non-powdery finish, look at places 5 and 9. For coverage, consider the 3rd place. There are truly many options, so by matching your needs, you’ll surely achieve your ideal skin.
