Foreign media cited an insider saying that the Trump administration would announce as early as Thursday local time (the 2nd) that it would levy tariffs on pharmaceutical companies that have not yet reached an agreement to ensure low drug prices in the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump has long threatened to impose 100% to 200% tariffs on the pharmaceutical industry in order to force drugmakers to move production back to the United States and lower drug prices for American patients. Most major pharmaceutical companies, such as Pfizer and Eli Lilly, have already reached an agreement with the White House in exchange for a three-year exemption from such tariffs.

According to reports, companies that have not reached an agreement with the government and have not held negotiations will face a 100% tariff. The above plan has not been finalized yet, and changes are still possible, while certain drugs and disease categories may also receive exemptions.
