According to a report by the U.S. Naval Institute News Service on the 17th, the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS “Ford,” which participated in large-scale military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran, is preparing to leave the Red Sea after a fire broke out last week, and will sail to a U.S. Navy base in Greece for repairs. The report, citing a senior U.S. official, said the “Ford” carrier will undergo repairs lasting more than a week at the U.S. Navy base in Souda Bay on the southern Greek island of Crete. The report stated that a fire broke out in the ship’s laundry room at the stern on the 12th, injuring three sailors, one of whom was evacuated from the carrier. Over 200 other sailors received treatment for inhaling dense smoke and have now returned to duty. A Pentagon spokesperson said in a statement that the fire destroyed multiple compartments on the carrier and more than 100 berths. As of the 17th, the “Ford” has been on continuous at-sea mission for 266 days. This largest U.S. aircraft carrier first traveled from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean to participate in the U.S. military operation against Venezuela in January this year. In February, it again moved from the Caribbean through the Mediterranean to the Middle East region to participate in the large-scale airstrikes launched by the United States and Israel on the 28th against Iran.
