Hey, I just found out that speeding fines in Mexico City have increased more than I thought. It turns out they adjusted the UMA in February, and now everything costs more. The speeding ticket in CDMX is no longer what it used to be.
It depends on where you go, but basically if you exceed the speed limit on streets of 50 or 40 km/h, it costs between 1,173 and 2,346 pesos. But the worst part is in calm zones, those where the limit is less than 30 km/h, where the speeding fine in CDMX ranges from 2,346 to 3,519 pesos. That's a lot of money.
And it's not just that. Running a red light now costs between 1,173 and 2,346 pesos, using your phone while driving costs between 3,519 and 4,105 pesos, and invading the Bus Rapid Transit lane can get you fined from 4,692 to 7,038 pesos. Don't even get me started on the No Circulate program, which costs between 2,346 and 3,519 pesos.
Basically, since the UMA increased in February, all traffic violations in CDMX are more expensive. If you're in the capital, it's better to respect the limits because this speeding fine in CDMX is serious. It's not worth the risk.
