US Intelligence Agencies: Iran Currently Unwilling to End War, Believes Trump Lacks Sincerity

On April 2, The New York Times reported that US officials revealed that multiple American intelligence agencies recently assessed that the Iranian government is currently unwilling to engage in substantive negotiations to end the war with the US and Israel. Officials stated that the assessment believes the Iranian government perceives itself to be in a strong position in the war and does not feel compelled to yield to US diplomatic demands. They noted that while Iran is willing to keep communication channels open, the country does not trust the US and believes President Trump is not sincere about negotiations. Over the past year, Trump has ordered attacks on Iran twice during negotiations over the country’s nuclear program. These assessments align with recent statements from Iranian officials. US and Iranian officials indicated that the two countries are exchanging information through intermediary nations, and possibly through direct channels, but have not negotiated terms for a ceasefire or the end of the war.
