Just saw the new Forbes billionaires list and wow, the Philippines had quite the shakeup this year. Enrique Razon Jr. is now the richest Filipino after his net worth jumped $5.6 billion to $16.5 billion. Meanwhile, Manuel Villar who was on top last year? His wealth just tanked by $14 billion down to $3.1 billion. That's a massive fall because of some corporate governance issues with his property company.
Lucio Tan moved up to second place with $3.5 billion - guy's basically in everything, tobacco, airlines, banking, you name it. Then there's Ramon Ang from San Miguel pretty steady around $3.6 billion. The richest Filipino list has 15 people total now, and honestly the wealth concentration is wild. Razon's $16.5 billion alone is like... a lot.
On the global side, Elon Musk is sitting pretty at $839 billion and apparently getting close to being the first trillionaire. The whole list added 400 new billionaires this year thanks to the AI boom. It's crazy how fast wealth is accumulating at the top. Anyone else noticing how different the rankings look year to year?
