I just found out that there’s been a lot of discounts for retirees at supermarkets lately. It turns out that if you receive your pension or retirement benefits with a debit card, you automatically get discounts at around 7,000 stores. That’s not bad.
The discounts vary quite a bit depending on where you shop. In some places like Disco, Jumbo, and Vea, they give you 10% off everything, but at Toledo, it’s 20% with no cap. Then there’s Carrefour with 10% but with a limit of $35,000, and Día, which also gives you 10% back but with a cap of $2000 per transaction. Changomas is more restrictive: 10% but a maximum of $1000 per purchase and $15,000 per month.
Now, if you get paid through Banco Nación, they add an extra 5% at those same supermarkets. Banco Galicia offers up to 25% savings with 3 interest-free installments (with a monthly cap of $20,000). Banco Supervielle gives you 20% on Tuesdays at Jumbo, Disco, Vea, and Chango Más. And if you’re with Banco Provincia, it’s 5% at Día, Toledo, Chango Más, Carrefour, and Nini.
Honestly, the discount system for retirees is pretty well thought out. You just have to remember to pay with the right card, and that’s it—discount applied automatically. Are you already using it, or are you just learning about it like I am?
