Just realized a lot of people still don't know the easiest way to update your SASSA banking details, especially if you're on the SRD grant. Let me break down what actually works because the process is different depending on which grant you're getting.

If you're getting permanent grants like old age or disability, you have to go in person to a SASSA office—no way around it. Bring your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months), and they'll give you a form to fill out. Just remember the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts. Takes about 21 working days to process, and if you submit after the 15th of the month, it won't kick in until the next cycle.

But here's the thing—if you're on SRD, it's completely different. You can actually update your SASSA banking details online through their portal without leaving your house. Just enter your ID number, they'll send you a link via SMS, click it, and add your new bank details. Way faster, usually takes a few days. Same rule though: account must be in your name.

For changing your phone number, SRD also lets you do it online through their contact portal—you'll get an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, just call 0800 60 10 or visit an office. One heads up: watch out for fake websites claiming to update your details. Always use the official SASSA portal or go in person. Not worth risking your grant over a scam link.
