Trump Claims Iran Has Proposed a Ceasefire, Iran Denies as False Statement

Donald Trump claimed via a post on Truth Social (01/04) that Iran's new leader has requested a ceasefire with the United States. Trump stated he would only consider the offer if the Strait of Hormuz is fully opened for international navigation. If that condition is ignored, Trump threatened to continue bombing Iran's infrastructure until it is completely destroyed.
Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately strongly denied the claim, calling it a baseless false statement. Iran emphasized that there has been no ceasefire request or direct negotiations with Washington. Iran reaffirmed its stance not to submit to pressure or military threats imposed by the United States in defending its sovereignty.
Despite the mutual denials, Axios reports mention discussions about a potential agreement through international intermediaries. This peace initiative involving China and Pakistan includes a ceasefire in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. However, several U.S. officials remain cautious as no concrete agreement is expected to be reached in the near future.
