Some people are panicking or asking about the impact of quantum computing on cryptocurrencies.


From a high-level perspective, all cryptocurrencies need to do is upgrade to quantum-resistant (post-quantum) algorithms. Therefore, there is no need to panic. 😂
In practice, there are some implementation considerations. In a decentralized world, upgrades by organizations are very difficult. There may be many debates about which algorithms to use, leading to some forks.
And some dead projects may never upgrade at all. In any case, cleaning up these projects might be a good idea.
New code could introduce other vulnerabilities or security issues in the short term.
Self-custodians will have to migrate their coins to new wallets.
This raises a question about Satoshi's Bitcoin. If those coins move, it means he/she is still active, which is interesting. If they don't move (within a certain timeframe), then locking (or effectively destroying) those addresses might be better to prevent them from falling into the hands of the first hacker to crack them. Also, identifying all addresses owned by him/her is difficult, which helps avoid confusion with some old holders. Anyway, that’s a different topic for later.
Fundamentally:
Cryptography is always easier to break than to secure.
More computing power is always better.
