Just realized a lot of people struggling with their SASSA payments because they haven't updated their banking details. If you're on the R350 SRD grant or permanent grants, you actually need to sort this out properly or you'll miss payments.
For the R350 grant, the good news is it's all online now. You go to the SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you update your banking details there. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank verification, but it's straightforward. Just make sure the account is in YOUR name only—no joint accounts or anything.
If you're on permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), it's different. You actually have to go in person to a SASSA office with your ID and recent bank statement (not older than 3 months). They'll give you a form to fill out, and then it takes up to 21 working days to process. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month.
Also, if your phone number changed, update that too because they use SMS for verification links and payment notifications. For the R350, you can do it online through their contact portal. For permanent grants, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. Honestly, a lot of people miss their December payments just because they didn't update this stuff in time. Worth sorting now.
