I've been thinking about replacing my streaming device recently, and I compared various options. There are more choices than I expected, and I got a bit confused. Fire TV series, Google devices, Apple TV—it's hard to tell which one is really the best.
From trying out a few, I think the key factors are speed and price balance. The Fire TV Stick 4K MAX boots quickly (about 13.5 seconds on average), and scrolling is smooth (around 10.4 seconds). It supports 4K and Wi-Fi 6E, so it works seamlessly. Plus, it’s often cheaper during sales.
However, if speed is the top priority, the Apple TV 4K is in a league of its own. It boots in just 4.8 seconds and scrolls in about 5.9 seconds—really fast. The picture quality is also excellent. The only downside is its higher price at 19,000 yen.
For cost performance, the Fire TV Stick 4K Select is recommended. It’s set to launch in November 2025 with the new Vega OS. Boot time is about 15.3 seconds, which is a bit slow, but scrolling at 10.8 seconds is good enough. It’s reasonably priced at 7,980 yen. However, since it’s a new OS, long-term support might be uncertain.
The Google TV Streamer 4K is also a solid choice. It has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, with a boot time of 14.7 seconds and scrolling in 10.7 seconds. Its integration with Google accounts is smooth, making it a good fit for Google users.
If you have almost no budget and just want something cheap, Chromecast with Google TV (4K) costs 6,100 yen. But it takes about 18 seconds to boot, so it might not be ideal for people who switch apps frequently.
Ultimately, the best streaming device depends on how you use it. Do you prioritize comfort, cost, or picture quality? Clarifying your main focus before choosing will help you pick the right one.
