Just realized I needed to sort out my SASSA details last week, and honestly, the process is pretty different depending on which grant you're on. If you're getting the SRD grant, changing your phone number or banking info is actually way easier than I thought - it's all online through their portal, which is kind of nice. You just need your ID number and application ID, then they send you an OTP to verify everything. Takes a few days to process once you submit.

But here's the thing - if you lost your phone or need to change your SRD phone number, make sure you do it through the official SASSA website. There are dodgy fake sites out there trying to get people's info, so don't fall for that. The whole point of the online portal is that it's supposed to be secure.

For other permanent grants though (old age, disability, child grants), you can't do any of this online. You actually have to go to a SASSA office in person, fill out forms, bring your ID and bank statement, and wait up to 21 days for them to verify everything with the bank. Pretty annoying if you just need to change your phone number or update banking details, but that's how it works.

One tip: if you're making changes, try to do it before the 15th of the month, otherwise you'll have to wait another cycle for the new details to kick in. Also, the account has to be in your name only - they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that. Anyone else had to deal with this recently? The process could definitely be smoother.
