March 4, just after midnight, Lin Junyang, the core负责人 of Alibaba Qianwen’s large model, posted on a social platform to announce his resignation, and this news has caused quite a stir in the tech community.

This morning, Alibaba CEO Wu Yongming responded to Lin Junyang’s departure in an internal email. He said that he will continue to stick to the open-source model strategy and keep increasing AI R&D investment and efforts to attract excellent talent.

Below is the full text of the email:

To all Tongyi Lab colleagues:

The company has decided to approve Lin Junyang’s resignation. Thank you, Lin Junyang, for your contributions in your role in the past. Jingren will continue to lead Tongyi Lab in推进 the subsequent work. At the same time, the company will establish a foundational model support group, jointly coordinating group resources with me, Jingren, and Fan Yu to support the development of foundational models.

If technical development does not move forward, it will fall behind. Developing foundational large models is a key strategy for us looking to the future. While continuing to adhere to the open-source model strategy, we will continuously increase our R&D investment in the field of artificial intelligence and strengthen our efforts to attract excellent talent. Let’s加油 together.

Wu Yongming
