[Caixin.com] After the Spring Festival each year, pork prices tend to decline seasonally, and 2026 has continued this trend; however, the absolute level is significantly lower than in previous years.

According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, on March 31, 2026, the national average price of pork at wholesale markets for agricultural products was 15.31 yuan per kilogram, down 1.0% from the previous day. In the previous week (from March 20 to March 26), pork prices decreased by 1.9% month-over-month, with a year-over-year decline of 23.4%. Caixin’s review of historical data shows that since data collection began in June 2013, only in May 2018 has the price fallen below 16 yuan per kilogram.

Monitoring by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of 500 county wholesale markets and collection points nationwide also indicated that in the fourth week of March, in all 30 monitored provinces, both live pig and pork prices declined, with year-over-year decreases of 29.8% and 17.8%, respectively.
