Interesting, Powell's speech at Stanford on December 2nd turned out to be quite different from what everyone expected. The Fed Chair didn't mention the economy or monetary policy at all in his prepared remarks. Everyone was hoping for at least a hint about his stance on the current situation, but there was nothing. Powell's speech was quite strange in this context — he focused on something entirely different. Honestly, this silence on economic issues raises more questions than answers. Analysts are probably scratching their heads trying to figure out what it means. What are your theories?
