Trump is "disappointed" with NATO
On the 17th, U.S. President Trump met with visiting Irish Prime Minister Martin at the White House, and once again expressed dissatisfaction with NATO allies for not participating in the escort operation that the United States plans to launch in the Strait of Hormuz, saying he was “disappointed” with NATO. Trump told reporters, “NATO is making a very stupid mistake.” “I want to know whether NATO will support us. So this is a very good test, because we don’t need them, but they should have been there,” he said, “and the United States must remember that, because we think this is very shocking.” Trump claimed that over the years the United States has invested “tens of billions of dollars” into NATO, which is one of the reasons for the U.S. fiscal deficit. However, when asked whether the U.S. would reconsider its relationship with NATO, he said, “At the moment, there is no intention.” Trump stated that it “won’t be too long” before the Strait of Hormuz can be safely navigated. He also said that the United States is not yet prepared to end the conflict with Iran, but that “we will leave in the near future.” (Xinhua News Agency)
