E-commerce giant Mercado Libre announced that after nearly four years, it will cease using its native cryptocurrency Mercado Coin. Starting April 17, users will no longer be able to buy, sell, or earn cashback with the token. Mercado Coin was launched in 2022 to reward platform shopping, and this ERC-20 token will be phased out through the Mercado Pago wallet. Users can sell the tokens, use them as points, or wait for automatic conversion into local fiat currency. The company will continue to support other cryptocurrency features, including stablecoin transfers and transactions, and holds over $38 million worth of Bitcoin.
