Recently, I’ve noticed many newcomers on Discord and Twitter are confused by crypto slang. So I’ve put together a quick reference guide that I hope will help everyone.

Let’s start with the basics. The word HODL originally was a typo, but now it’s a declaration of faith — meaning to hold tight and not sell, regardless of market fluctuations. You’ll see many people say “I’m still HODLing” during a market crash, which means they’re long-term optimistic and not worried about short-term volatility.

Next is FUD. This stands for Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt, usually referring to negative rumors or exaggerated bad news in the market. FUD basically means someone is spreading panic to make weak hands sell off. For example, when a big influencer posts a sensational tweet, a lot of FUD can spread quickly in the community. Understanding the core meaning of FUD is important so you don’t get swept away by market emotions.

WAGMI is purely about community spirit — “We’re All Gonna Make It.” It’s often shouted during bull markets or when new projects launch, representing unity and confidence in the future. It’s like a collective mantra in the crypto community.

GM and GN are simpler — good morning and good night. But in crypto communities, they’re more than greetings; they’re a way to build a sense of belonging. You’ll see lots of GM replies every morning on Twitter.

DYOR means “Do Your Own Research,” which is especially important. With information overload and countless influencers, the biggest risk is blindly following others. So before making any investment, you should do your homework: read the project’s whitepaper, check the team’s background, understand the technical details — don’t just listen to what others say.

Finally, REKT means being completely defeated or wrecked. Buying at a high and getting stuck, or getting liquidated on leverage, are all called REKT. This term reminds us of the importance of risk management.

Learning these slang terms isn’t just about fitting into the community — it’s about understanding the market logic behind them. Next time you check prices on Gate or discuss in groups, you’ll be able to understand what everyone’s talking about more quickly and avoid some rookie investment mistakes. Remember — HODL your faith, beware of FUD, but also research rationally. That’s how you can go further in the crypto market.
