So you're curious about HOT mining? Let me break down what I've learned about this whole thing because it's actually pretty interesting how it works.
First off, HOT is basically the token that powers transactions in the NEAR ecosystem, especially if you're using it through Telegram. What makes it different is that you can actually use it for real blockchain transactions, games, and transfers without the usual friction. They've got something called meta-transactions that makes this possible. Eventually this will work across other networks too, not just NEAR.
Getting started with hot mining is super straightforward. You create a wallet, claim your first free HOT, and boom - the mining starts automatically. Pretty simple entry point.
Now here's where it gets interesting. Your mining doesn't run forever - it stops when your storage fills up. Think of it like a fire you need to keep alive. You get a storage indicator that tracks this, and initially it only holds enough for about 2 hours of mining. But you can upgrade it using HOT tokens themselves. There are 6 levels total, from the basic wooden storage at 2 hours all the way up to gold storage that gives you 24 hours of uninterrupted mining.
The real game is increasing your mining speed. There are three main ways to do this. First is your fireplace - this determines your base mining rate. You can upgrade it through 5 levels, starting at 0.01 HOT per hour and going up to 0.05 HOT per hour at the top tier. Second, you've got wood multipliers that boost your output if you complete missions. Third, and this is the most effective part - the referral system. You get 20% extra from direct referrals and 5% from people they bring in. That compounds pretty quickly if you're actually inviting people.
When you claim your HOT, it gets recorded on-chain, which means you pay a small gas fee in NEAR tokens. On NEAR the fees are tiny, like $0.005 per transaction. You start with 3 free claims, but after that you've got options: top up your NEAR balance, use HOT to cover fees (though that's less efficient), or complete missions for free transactions.
The whole hot mining system is designed to reward active participation. Whether you're just casually mining or diving deep into the ecosystem, there's always something to optimize. The key is understanding that storage and fireplace upgrades are investments that pay off through faster accumulation over time.
