I notice that many newcomers in crypto confuse two popular project launch mechanisms — launchpad and launchpool. In fact, these are completely different tools, although both are used to bring new tokens to the market.
Let's start with launchpool. This is a platform where you can lock in your existing cryptocurrencies and earn new project tokens as a reward. Essentially, it's a form of staking — you provide your assets and, in return, receive additional income in the form of fresh tokens. Some major exchanges offer such pools, and it's a good way for projects to distribute tokens among an active community without a traditional direct sale. Users can participate multiple times, earning gradually, which creates long-term engagement.
Launchpad is something entirely different. It’s a platform that functions as an investment tool for new projects. Projects use launchpads to conduct ICOs, IEOs, or simply direct token sales. Here, you don’t stake your assets — you directly purchase new tokens by investing your money. The platform acts as a guarantor, ensuring transaction security and project verification.
That’s the main difference. Launchpad is a tool for direct investments — you pay, receive tokens, and hope for growth. Launchpool is a reward mechanism for loyalty — you provide your assets as collateral and earn rewards for it. The first is suitable for investors seeking new opportunities. The second is for those who want to earn from their holdings.
Regarding distribution methods, the difference is clear: on launchpad, you buy tokens directly; on launchpool, you earn them through staking. Community engagement also differs. On launchpad, investors mainly wait for results. On launchpool, participants become more active because they have already invested their assets and are interested in the project’s success.
Launchpad is essentially ICO 2.0 — a safer and more regulated way to launch projects. Both mechanisms operate in parallel today and complement each other in the crypto ecosystem. Projects often use both approaches simultaneously — attracting investments through launchpad and then distributing tokens via launchpool to engage a broader audience.
