【AI+ Chips】Marvell receives $2 billion investment from NVIDIA, stock price up 7%
Marvell (U.S.: MRVL), which develops custom chips and optical interconnects, announced that it is joining the NVIDIA (U.S.: NVDA) ecosystem and will establish a strategic partnership. NVIDIA will invest $2 billion in Marvell.
Marvell shares rose 7%, to $93.85, while NVIDIA shares rose 2%, to $168.2.
Marvell said it will connect Marvell to NVIDIA AI Factories and the AI-RAN ecosystem through NVIDIA NVLink Fusion, giving customers building next-generation infrastructure on the NVIDIA platform more options and flexibility. The two companies will also collaborate on silicon photonics technology.
The announcement said the partnership is built on NVIDIA NVLink Fusion. NVLink Fusion is a rack-scale platform that enables customers to develop semi-custom AI infrastructure using the NVIDIA NVLink ecosystem. Marvell will provide custom XPU and an upscaling (scale-up) network compatible with NVLink Fusion, while NVIDIA will provide related supporting technologies, including Vera CPU, ConnectX network interface cards (NICs), Bluefield DPU, NVLink interconnect technology, and the Spectrum-X switchers, as well as rack-scale AI computing capability.
For customers developing custom XPUs, NVLink Fusion enables heterogeneous AI infrastructure that is fully compatible with NVIDIA systems, allowing seamless integration with NVIDIA’s GPUs, LPUs, networking, and storage platforms, while also fully leveraging NVIDIA’s rich technology stack and global supply-chain ecosystem.
The two companies will also collaborate to transform global telecom networks into AI infrastructure using NVIDIA Aerial AI-RAN for 5G/6G, and to advance world-class AI networking, including advanced optical interconnect solutions and silicon photonics technology.
“The turning point for inference has arrived. Demand for token generation is surging, and everyone around the world is racing to build AI factories.” NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said, “By partnering with Marvell, we enable customers to scale using NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure ecosystem and build their own dedicated AI computing environment.”
“Expanding our partnership with NVIDIA reflects the growing importance of high-speed connectivity, optical interconnects, and accelerated infrastructure in scaling AI deployments.” Matt Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Marvell, said, “By connecting Marvell’s leadership in high-performance analog, optical DSP, silicon photonics, and custom silicon to NVIDIA’s ever-expanding AI ecosystem through NVLink Fusion, we are empowering customers to build highly scalable and efficient AI infrastructure.”
