I just saw some people in the group talking about what hopium is, so I want to share a little about this concept because it's quite common in the crypto community.
What is hopium? It is a slang term created by combining the words "hope" and "opium." This naming is not accidental—it’s used to mock baseless hope and unfounded optimism.
In the world of cryptocurrency, what does hopium actually mean? It describes the state of investors who are blindly denying reality. A typical example is when someone believes that a coin that has "died" still has great potential and will moon just because... they want it to. That is hopium.
I also see that hopium is related to another concept called "copium"—but they are different. Copium refers to mechanisms of self-comfort in negative situations, while hopium is hope without any basis. If copium is "I lost but at least I still have...", then hopium is "It will go up, I know it."
Essentially, what is hopium from a psychological perspective? It’s how the crypto community mocks unrealistic expectations. The term carries a negative tone, serving as a reminder for people not to be overly optimistic.
I often see it used like: "Need a little hopium for those who lost money" or "Hopium for those still praying for BTC to hit 100k." It’s how the community jokingly refers to baseless hopes.
In summary, understanding what hopium is helps us recognize psychological mistakes in investing. It’s a reminder that in crypto, logical analysis is necessary instead of blind hope.
