I’ve been wondering lately which cryptocurrencies Elon Musk actually holds in his portfolio. This guy has an incredible influence on the market—one tweet and prices soar or plummet. That’s why it’s worth taking a closer look at which crypto assets he’s invested in.
Let’s start with Bitcoin, the classic. Musk publicly admitted to owning BTC in 2021, when Tesla announced an investment worth $1.5 billion. Although Tesla later sold most of its holdings, Musk confirmed that he personally still holds Bitcoin. I understand why—he sees it as digital gold, a store of value for the long term. Currently, BTC is hovering around $67,720, with a 0.61% increase today.
Another important cryptocurrency for Musk is Ethereum. He revealed this during a speech at the Bitcoin 2021 conference. ETH is a significant player in his ecosystem because it underpins smart contracts, DeFi, NFTs, and a whole range of innovative applications. The price of Ethereum is now $2,070, up 1.32%.
But the most interesting part? Dogecoin. It’s Musk’s favorite, and he makes no secret of it. From calling DOGE the “people’s cryptocurrency” to promoting it at Tesla and SpaceX—his support has changed the game for the entire coin. He appreciates its meme-inspired history but also believes in its potential as a medium of exchange due to low fees and an engaged community. DOGE is currently at $0.09, a slight decrease of 1.13%.
Beyond these confirmed holdings, there are rumors about other coins in Musk’s portfolio. Shiba Inu, Floki Inu—these dog-themed tokens catch his attention and cause market movements, although Musk denies owning SHIB. His tweets about dog coins have incredible market power.
What puzzles me is—how much influence can one person’s personal interests have on an entire asset class? Musk’s crypto portfolio is essentially a lesson in how social media and individual voices can shape markets. It’s worth watching which cryptocurrencies will be in his spotlight in the coming months.
