I just took a look at who actually controls the most Bitcoins – and the list is really interesting. At the top is, of course, Satoshi Nakamoto with an estimated 1.1 million BTC, but those coins have never been moved since the early days. Crazy, right?

What surprised me: institutional investors have significantly increased their holdings. BlackRock holds over 305,000 BTC, Grayscale owns nearly 264,000 BTC, and Fidelity has also bought a substantial amount with over 181,000 BTC. This clearly shows how much Bitcoin has now entered the traditional financial sector.

Then there are the major crypto platforms – one of them holds over 550,000 BTC, another about 294,000 BTC. Of course, most of this is customer assets, but still impressive. MicroStrategy is also interesting with their 226,500 BTC – the company has really bet on Bitcoin as a treasury reserve.

Governments are also involved: the US holds over 213,000 BTC (mostly from seizures), China about 190,000 BTC. Even Block.one with 164,000 BTC is still among the top 10 Bitcoin holders.

So, the ones who really own the most Bitcoins are a mix of the Bitcoin creator, large asset managers, and big platforms. The concentration is quite remarkable – but that’s also the reason why Bitcoin must remain decentralized, right?
