I just realized something quite interesting — today is May 22nd, known in the crypto community as Pizza Day. And every year on this day, people remember the craziest story in modern financial history.

The story begins in 2010, when a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz living in Florida craved pizza. Instead of ordering delivery normally, he posted on the Bitcoin forum proposing a strange transaction — paying 10,000 BTC in exchange for two large pizzas from Papa John’s. At that time, that amount was only about $40. Everyone thought it was just a joke, but another user accepted, used a credit card to order the pizza, and had it delivered to Laszlo’s house.

That was a seemingly meaningless transaction, but it proved an important point — Bitcoin could be used practically, exchanged for goods in everyday life. That was the first step in turning Bitcoin from theory into reality.

Now, if you do the math, with Bitcoin’s current price around $67,000, Laszlo’s 10,000 BTC is worth nearly $675 billion. Those two pizzas became the most expensive meals in human history. But for Laszlo, it wasn’t a mistake but a bold decision — helping to transform Bitcoin from an obscure concept into a digital currency that can actually be used.

Since then, Pizza Day has become a traditional celebration within the community. Every May 22nd, crypto enthusiasts around the world eat pizza, share memes, and reflect on Bitcoin’s incredible journey — from something nobody believed in to a market worth trillions of dollars.

On this Pizza Day, I want to raise a slice of pizza in memory of Laszlo — the person who started it all with a small transaction that changed the world. Sometimes, the simplest actions are the sparks for the greatest revolutions.
