Earlier today, before heading to the field, I had a conversation with a group of Jehovah’s Witnesses who approached me with an invitation to their church program.

At the time, I expressed my concern about the rising cost of food and how difficult things have become. One of them responded by saying that God would take control.
I respectfully shared my view that the current economic hardship is largely a result of human decisions and policies, not something to be left to divine intervention alone.
I also asked about their stance on voting, and they explained that they focus on God’s Kingdom rather than earthly systems, which is why they do not participate in elections.
In response, I pointed out respectfully that while we may choose different beliefs, we all still live within and are affected by earthly systems. The cost of food, fuel, and daily living impacts everyone, regardless of personal convictions.
At that point, another member of their group added that voting has not produced meaningful change, and they prefer to remain focused on their faith. I acknowledged their perspective, and we ended the conversation on that note.
As I left, one thought stayed with me: whether we choose to engage with politics or not, its outcomes still shape our daily lives.
