AI Empowers Industry Upgrades: International Entrepreneurs Offer Suggestions on Beijing's Openness and Innovation
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 20 (Reporter Xu Jing) The 17th Beijing International Entrepreneurs Advisory Conference (referred to as the “International Advisory Conference”) was held in Beijing from March 19 to 20. Guests from various sectors exchanged views on topics such as the development trends of the technology industry and global industrial innovation collaboration, as well as the construction and governance of megacities.
“The world can learn a lot from Beijing’s research strength, development speed, and industrial scale, and vice versa.” At the conference held on the 20th, AstraZeneca’s global CEO Pascal Soriot introduced that following the announcement last year of an additional investment of approximately 18 billion yuan (RMB, the same below) in Beijing, AstraZeneca announced in January this year that it would invest 100 billion yuan in China by 2030.
He believes that AI will change the entire process of drug discovery, development, production, and ultimately benefiting patients. Beijing already has remarkable advantages in this field and should establish closer ties with global leading innovation ecosystems, continue to strengthen supportive policies for innovation, and promote the development of public health.
“The current wave of technological innovation centered on artificial intelligence is moving from the ‘experimental stage’ of technological breakthroughs to the ‘scaled application stage’ of deep integration with the economy and society.” Deloitte Global Council Chairman Punit Renjen suggested that Beijing should combine the creation of a global innovation hub for physical AI and lead new models of human-machine collaboration to build an “AI-native” megacity. She stated that Deloitte China will leverage its rich global network resources, deep industry accumulation, and forward-looking professional insights to actively empower Beijing’s innovative exploration and practical implementation in these areas, contributing to the high-quality development of the capital.
The Chairman of the Hong Kong MTR Corporation, Jacob Kam, is focused on the development of Beijing’s night economy. He believes that the night economy is an extension of the city’s daytime activities, and most of the venues and facilities it requires are located in the urban built-up area, making it a good platform to leverage the existing economy. He said that Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong could develop a “Beijing-Shanghai-Hong Kong cultural and creative industry corridor” to support the high-quality development of the cultural industry.
The Beijing International Entrepreneurs Advisory Conference was established in 1999, and its advisory members consist of top executives from Fortune 500 multinational companies and well-known institutions, with its secretariat located in the Beijing Council for the Promotion of International Trade. The International Advisory Conference currently has 38 advisory units and has played a positive role in promoting the development of international enterprises in Beijing and deepening the city’s opening up to the outside world.
