I'm exhausted. I helped my dad haul four truckloads of unwanted cow manure. It wasn't until almost sunset that we finished unloading, and now I'm so tired inside. What's the point of all this? The corn we grow can't be eaten, and the land is so big—how much can the yield be increased? Corn kernels only sell for a little over 9 cents a pound. My family's entire cornfield only earns about 5,000 yuan a year, which is only about $719 USD. Ignoring the corn, the half-acre land we farm can feed us, but probably not much. My dad also grows a lot of potatoes; when they spoil, he says I don't watch or care, then scolds me harshly. I don't eat potatoes, but I have to eat them. I peel a lot of potatoes every night. Out of 365 days a year, I spend about 360 days eating potatoes. I'm so fed up, I want to run away. Last year, the rain caused the courtyard wall to collapse. I told my dad to stop planting this year and just rebuild it first. But he wouldn't listen. I told him to sell the old grain, but he wouldn't. The mice have chewed up everything inside the house, and he still won't sell. What’s the point of him farming? I really can't stand it. People like him will never get rich in their lifetime.
