The National Federation of Sugarcane Farmers of India (NFCSF) has released data showing that as of March 15, India’s sugar production has reached 26.175 million tons, an increase of approximately 10% compared to 23.715 million tons during the same period last year. As the crushing season approaches its end, several major sugar-producing states are gradually shutting down their sugar mills. For the 2025/26 crushing season, India has a total of 540 sugar mills in operation, an increase of 7 mills from the 533 in the previous season. Currently, 173 sugar mills have not yet finished crushing, significantly lower than the 200 mills at the same time last year. Taking Maharashtra as an example, as of March 12, 154 out of 210 sugar mills in the state have completed the crushing season, processing 10.3696 million tons of sugarcane and producing 9.8158 million quintals (approximately 981.58 million tons) of sugar.
