【Beginner Advancement】What is Spot Trading?
Spot (Spot) is a fundamental mode of cryptocurrency trading, suitable for beginners. In simple terms, spot trading means directly buying and selling ownership of cryptocurrencies. Regardless of price fluctuations later on, the amount of coins you hold will not change.
Core features:
No leverage: Invest only what you put in, participate in the buying and selling of assets accordingly;
Immediate settlement: Once the transaction is completed, the assets immediately belong to the buyer, and can be withdrawn to a personal wallet;
Risk controllable: No risk of liquidation, maximum loss is limited to the principal.
Spot trading is like shopping at a supermarket. You bring cash (like USDT), select a product (like BTC), pay, and the product becomes yours. You can take it home and hold it, and sell it later when it appreciates.
🏷️ How to profit from spot trading
Price difference profit
Buy low, sell high: The most direct method. Investors judge the future trend of the asset, buy at a lower price, and sell after the price rises to earn the difference.
Swing trading: Using technical analysis (candlesticks, moving averages, volume, etc.) to repeatedly enter and exit during obvious upward or downward swings, aiming for short- to medium-term gains.
Arbitrage strategies
Cross-platform arbitrage: Exploit price differences of the same asset across different exchanges, such as buying on Exchange A and selling at a higher price on Exchange B.
Triangular arbitrage: Within the same platform, use small price differences among BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT, and ETH/BTC trading pairs to cycle trade.
Stablecoin arbitrage: Seek interest rate differences between different chains or different stablecoins.
Dollar-cost averaging
Regularly (e.g., daily/weekly) buy a fixed amount, not aiming for the lowest point in one go, but spreading out costs and smoothing out volatility. Over the long term, this can reduce the average purchase cost.
Grid trading
Automatically place buy and sell orders within a preset range at fixed price differences, buying low and selling high in sequence, suitable for ranging markets.
Tools: Centralized platform grid bots, third-party quantitative software.
Holding tokens for income
Staking: Lock up spot tokens in the network to earn block rewards or staking rewards;
Lending interest: Deposit tokens into lending protocols (like Aave, Compound) to earn lending interest.
If you are a beginner, I recommend starting with spot trading because it is simple and transparent. You don’t need to worry about complex leverage or liquidation operations, making it suitable for those familiarizing themselves with the cryptocurrency market. 🚀
